Having recently been introduced to the "planted tank", I'm taking another step into the "shrimp and fish" tank. Is there such a thing as a shrimp/fish equivalent :hihi: or something like that? For example, is 3 shrimp "equal" to one neon tetra in the amount of waste they produce or is the waste totally different? Thanks!

The information available online ( google it, you can do it ;) ) will tell you that the rule of thumb for small shrimp like RCS is one shrip per half gallon of water. But lately I see people (myself included) double that number of shrimp per gallon with no detrimental effect. I have a growing colony or RCS in a 5 gal tank that started with 19 shrimp and now is more than twice that.

I would say there isn't any real equivalent since the waste put out by the dwarf shrimp is next to nothing especially considering that they clean your tank;) .

I hear that about 100 to 10g is easy in a 10g tank and have seen people with 200 + in a 10g tank.(good filter good WCs!)

So as long as the shrimp tank is nice and clean you can have more!
