Shrimp Blood Worms ADF

Friend gave me some ADFs, so now I feed blood worms. Fish are getting bigger and shrimp also like to eat this. Is there a drawback to feeding shrimp higher protein dinners? found a dead one today, one a few days back along with a dead neon tetra, but I'm not sure it's because of this, although the shrimp had the white band of death. Also switched to RO recently and salty shrimp and TDS is way higher than before, but this might also be due to adding extra macros. My nitrates are still zero.

Higher protein could mean result in faster growth, thus molting.. and if the shrimp aren't ready to molt, that could mean death.

If fed occasionally, i.e. once a week, at most, should be fine, but Neos really don't do well with higher protein diets.

Tigers on the other hand would definitely enjoy a higher protein diet! Not sure how often with these guys though...

Looked like a molting error to me, but I also changed a bunch of stuff in the tank (RO, upped ferts, put new plants). I'm supposed to feed these frogs every other day so I'm not sure how I'm gonna prevent the shrimp from eating the worms. They go right for and challenge the frogs for the food. I feel like everytime I dig around in the substrate something always end up dying too.
Try and keep the water parameters stable then and within the acceptable parameters for your shrimp and see how things go.

I always aim for the parameters, as much as i know or the tests give me. I'm religious about 1x a week water change on EI dosing, tank is heavy on plants and ok reproduction in the shrimp. No new deaths, everyone getting big on the worms. Mid-adolesence shrimp growth is much bigger with the worms.

I know this thread is a bit older, but stop dosing extra macros - your nitrates are not zero ;)

Are you using test strips or API liquid drops? I hate that freaking test, and I'm pretty sure everyone here has had this issue.

With the nitrate test kit, you literally have to smack the bottom of bottle #2 on a counter for at least 30 seconds, and then shake that test tube like your life depends on it for at least a minute.

I saw someone attach theirs to a reciprocating saw, so that's what I do now - no more tennis elbow!

I have a couple of adf's in with rasboras and tetras. I ended up feeding them by hand using long tweezers. They learn fast and when it's feeding time for the rest of the fish they are on the look out for the tweezers.

Previously, I found that just dropping the worms in, resulted in all the other fish taking them, predominantly the rummynoses's who are super greedy. Even now they will go for the tweezers unless I hold my fingers close to the base. They will even grab from a frogs mouth if they get the chance.

API liquid.

I am still figuring out the formulation for my setup. I have a 12g long with the current sat+ pro. Light is on 32, c02, and doubled the macro dose - big difference. For a while I was on 6mg dose, light 22 level, slower c02. Nothing has died with the extra macros - shrimp, etc. Was asking in another thread if my mix was wrong or diluted, no one answered it really. The macro mix is 7PPM nitrate with API liquid test. Using about 12ML of it every other day.

Bump:

Yea, all the frogs love the tweezers. It's not just the rummies that are greedy on the worms, it's also the guppies and gobies.
