Hey everyone,

I have a Fluval Chi 5g that I set up for my son. I really wanted to try and run it with the integrated light and filter and everything. But the light sucks. Its on same switch as filter so putting it on a timer is tricky. Its underwater so it gets overrun with hair algae and then plants suffer. It does not hut a very large area in the tank.
I got some Wendtii green crypts that are doing well. Java ferns doing ok. Java moss died. Everything else i tried died.
Anyways i’m at a point where I am looking at adding another light. Problem is I want it to be the least visible possible. Best way would be for a short LED ramp that can fit behind the filter box thats in the middle (see red area in picture).

Would light up just the back part of tank but that would be fine. Problem is all the lights im seeing are 12’’ at the smallest sizes: Nicrew, Hygger, finnex fluval etc.
Maybe a clip on light would work but it would have to hang pretty low or else its just gonna light the filter block.

Was hoping to get some light suggestions :)
Its a very low tech tank. Fluorite black sand. Root tabs. Thats it.

Thanks in advance

Ok so I found that twinstar and chihiros both make a small ramp for nano tanks that would fit. Twinstar seems impossible to order online for a reasonable price in canada. Apparently i would get no shipping fees if i order directly from chihirosaquatic studio. Which I find weird ? It would be pretty cheap….sounds too good to be true.
Anyone have any experience ordering directly from their website ?

Probably shipped out of China
There is a confusing system involved.
I used to think it was a simple Chinese gov subsidy. I now have learned it is way more complicated.
Starting here..

Probably won't ship for at least 2 weeks due to Chinese New Year.

Honestly, I had a Chi myself and that “filter” is complete garbage. I’d opt for a nice hang on the back or even a low profile internal filter. For a light, you could get a simple clip on light from Amazon and run a led bulb. I did this when I had mine up and running and plants grew just fine.

Once you remove the filter portion, you can easily remove that black piece that secures it with a razor blade. Then bam, a nice little rimless tank.
