where would be the cheapest place to shop for a pressurized co2 system? I hear the DIY setups are just to hard to regulate so I wondered how expensive it would be to get a kit for a 30 gallon

± $300 is a rough estimate which includes:
regulator w/needle valve, solenoid, bubble counter
filled CO2 cylinder
brass check valve(s) & CO2 tubing
diffuser/reactor

If you decide to go with very good equipment, you can have up to ± $500 in it.

Sometimes you can find deals at various places like swap n shop, eBay, etc. Some of us have found some deals on very good regulators lately.

Also, if you would like a pH controller, that is $100 to $200 more.

Here are some articles about setting them up:

There's a setup in the SnS right now for ~$175 for the regulator, solenoid, needle valves.

You'll need a tank (~$50) and a reactor (~$20).

wow, thats more expensive than the ones I was looking at before :(. I may try a DIY system and if that doesn;t do the trick this tank may just be destined to be a sump for a reeftank

I pieced mine together based on recommendations here and around the web:

Victor Regulator - Ebay - $45
Fabco Needle Valve - $25 - aquabotanic.com
Solenoid - $30 - greenleafaquariums.com
Diffuser - $18 - greenleafaquariums.com
Glass bubble counter - $15 - greenleafaquariums.com
Tubing - $7.50 - greenleafaquariums.com

Total: $140.50 + CO2 Cylinder

With my cylinder, I came in under $200.

From what I read, the hospital grade Victor regulators are great for aquarium use. I'm really happy with the quality of everything I bought - and feel like I got a good deal.
