Hello! I just wanted to share a few pictures I have taken so far this spring/summer. The lilies are going nuts, putting up new blooms every day, I haven't even fertilized yet! Enjoy!
Joey Tomocik

Clyde Ikins

Pink Grapefruit...or is it Sunny Pink?? (got them both at the same time, and the pots got mixed up!)

I think this one is the Sunny Pink, lol.

Dragonfly that emerged the other day

little snake :)

The whole album can be found here:http://s109.photobucket.com/albums/n74/sagecreations/Spring Flowers/

Thanks for looking!

Oh, how beautiful! Fabulous pics, Melissa! That Clyde Ikins is just gorgeous. I LOVE lilies with extra petals like that. They're not really "doubles" (or are they?), so should we call them extremely petaliferous? :icon_lol: Your Joey Tomocik is just divine as well. Love those yellows.

I'm a ponderer, too, but haven't had the time to take many pics of mine this year. So far I've only seen blooms from two ~ a peachy-orange one (sort of like your Clyde Ikins, but with fewer petals) and a yellow one. I can't tell you the names as I've misplaced all my name info on my lilies. I do know I have Attraction and tropical Zanzibar, but haven't seen either yet this year. I hope they made it through the winter ~ they have for three years.

And don't you just love the wildlife that a pond draws to your yard? I can do without the snakes (LOL!), but love watching the bugs and hearing the frogs.

Thank you! My husband is less then fond of my little snake friend, I just see him as a great population control if we get any mice like we did last year in the garden!

My pond is my big time taker all summer, but I truly do love spending time out there, my planted tank needs a bit of love as we speak, but I have been out taking care of the pond all day, lol. My koi are so super friendly, they totally know me, and they know when someone is not part of the family, they hide! :hihi:
Oooh, do you have pics of your koi?! I'd LOVE to see them! I only have feeder goldfish and a few shubunkins. One day I'll have koi. I've seen some of the most GORGEOUS asagi, platinum ogon and gold ogon fish. And those butterfly koi ~ YUM!

Yeah, even though I'm not fond of snakes, I tolerate them for just that reason ~ rat control. We have a deal, me and the snakes ~ they stay out of my way and I don't cut dey widdle heads off with my shovel. ;)
Nice pics.
I work at a pond place, this is my favorite time of year!!!
my lone hardy lilly(thanks to tom&becka, i think) is virginalis i think, it blooms every few weeks, even with fertilizer 2x monthly, but it only gets about 4 hours of direct sunlight.

I'm more fond of tropicals and.......L...Lo....LOTUS!!!!

ok, so i'm slightly obsessed with lotus.

your Iris pics are gorgeus!!! looks like that pond is having algae troubles thouhg.

whatch out for those dragonfly nymphs, they have a very sharp point on their tail that is very painful to get stabbed by.

@campcreek.

I bought feeder GF too, but mine have turned into some beutifull fish, i picked out some of the white/red patterned ones, thinking they may change to gold, but they ae now some brilliant red/white sarasa's, and even got one shubunkin form the feeder tank.

Thanks so much!

Yes, we were having a bit of an algae prob, we had not vaccuumed the upper and lower ponds yet, most of that stuff grows during the winter believe it or not! The pond is in full sun, from abut 8am to about 7pm, so it is tough to keep it in check. Finally got my sterilizer up and going, so no Greenwater (even though it was only slightly green) anymore either!

I'm getting a lotus next week from a pond shop nearby, and I will also be starting my seeds this week, I have some Nelumbo Lutea seeds I got for free!
i bought some nucifera seeds, started 2, but they haven't sprouted yet, it's been a week or so.
I just noticed the link to more of your pics, Melissa. Oof! Didn't notice that before. What GORGEOUS iris! I just love bearded iris ~ so tough and easy to grow, yet beautiful at the same time.

I also really love the rockwork you've done around your pond. Fabulous! Is your pond lined with a rubber liner or cement or ...? Whatever you did that with, nice job. And don't you just love (*NOT*!) spring algae blooms? Luckily, most of the beneficial bacteria have grown back in my ponds now, so I'm past the worst of it.

Aren't those really red ones just stunning, Devin? I have a few of those and even a solid white one. All from feeder goldfish stock (or bait shop stock actually).

Oooh, Lotus!! I've got some seeds I need to dig out and start myself. Devin, did you file through the outside of the hard seed coat? If you don't do that, you'll be waiting forever. I've grown lotus from seed before (the native yellow kind) and after filing the coat, mine sprouted in just a few days.

Thank you again! Yep, I adore my irises, I wish they bloomed all season though, they are such easy keepers too! I planted those guys all last summer, dug them out of a friends yard. I think I may get a few daylilies to go in there for next year, so I have color throughout the summer, or maybe toss in some wildflower seeds...

I will pass along your compliments about the rocks to my dear husband, he is the muscle behind it all, although I am the planner/designer. In other words, I tell him where to put them! :hihi: There are a few rocks he moved in that I don't even know how he got them in his truck! One of them has got to weigh 5-600 lbs, I am so glad I married an ex-football player :icon_smil

The pond is made with 45mil EPDM liner, it gets too cold here for a cement pond to work out, it would have to be drained every year, and with this size, it's not an option for us.

Oh and yes, gotta love spring algae, it means spring is finally here, and for me, my babies are finally visible with the ice all melted!

Do you have any pictures of your pond?

Tell Hubby he's a JEWEL!! I'm sure he knows that gardening for us gardeners is better than a shrink for keeping us happy. So he's a smart man to help you. ;)

Daylilies! Yes! Those would look nice. Have you thought of any other perennials for around there? Echinacea I think is hardy where you are and blooms for quite a while ~ mine's still blooming, been at it for a month. The blooms hold for quite a while, too. Salvias are easy to care for perennials and come in a multitude of colors and forms. Or maybe you'd want a bit of tropical-ness back there? Got a greenhouse to overwinter potted bananas, elephant ears and tree ferns? Those would look fabulous next to the pond.

All I have picture-wise are from years past. I need to get some updated pictures.

This is a small section of my largest 1200 or so gallon pond. It's 1/3 of a 5000 gallon water tank from a water truck a neighbor gave us.

This is one of my horse trough ponds.

Here are some of the lotus I started from seed a couple years ago for practice. They were all native lotus (Nelumbo lutea), seeds from dried seed pods from the craft store, and I don't have them any more ~ had to make room for the N. nucifera seeds I'll be starting soon.

This is my largest horse-trough pond in early spring (not many plants woken up yet and algae bloom heaven ~ ugh).

And some water lilies...

Attraction

Sulphurea

Virginalis (not positive on the ID ~ Devin, does it look like yours?)

Zanzibar ~ my only tropical.

Yep, linda, looks just like mine!!, and that zanzi is awesome. we had a pamela bloom at work today that blew my socks off!!![or are my socks too big?]
ooooh, love them all! I wish tropicals were easier for me to keep alive in the winter here, maybe I will try one in my 55 this winter, it's definitely warm enough, not sure if it's enough light though.

I would have ponds everywhere if my husband was game for it, lol, kind of like how I have so many fishtanks in the house, just sneak them in under the radar!

I love the half barrels for the lotus, going to have to try that when mine are big enough to go outside, starting them tomorrow!
They'll grow quick! mine went from 2" to 6" in one night!
Heehee, Devin! Maybe I should knit you some socks that fit. Give me a bit to spin up the wool. ;) Thanks for the confirmation on the ID on the lily.

Yep, I'm the same way, Melissa. If it holds water, I try to put plants and fish in it. *snicker*
me too, i've got lotus in a pot lined with a trashbag![i gotta get some barrels]
