Good evening everybody! I wanted to get some peoples opinions on some additional self-sustaining food sources for my puffer tank.

I currently have amassed a small colony of: Malaysian Trumpet Snails and also recently introduced Pond Snails and some Ramshorns as well (though I have a feeling they ate most of the Pond/Ramshorns before they could reproduce).

In addition to the snails I have quite a colony of blackworms...which was a shock to me as I introduced them nearly 6 months ago! A month or 2 ago I was studying my tank very closely and thought I saw a couple worms but thought no way. Proceeded to shine a flashlight at them and sure enough they shot right back into the gravel! I was so astonished to see them; I only expected them to live a couple weeks (if they weren't dinner) and now they are multiplying.

So any other ideas for self-sustaining food sources? Not even necessarily for the puffers; they're very happy, I just find it very fascinating and cool to keep this up, while adding to my ecosystem! Thanks for any help!

Never tried and certainly no expert on the subject but an idea that comes up is that it is not the type of food but the cover fo them that might be the best way to increase the total available. Some place where the snails and worms could get in to breed and live for some time where the puffer could not get to them until they wandered out, perhaps? Something as simple as a turned over saucer, maybe? To save losing space, cover and plant on top?
