Sandy "beach" effect and how to stop the plants?

1081 Views 2 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  chew
I'm wanting to setup a tank with a sand beach at the front then low grasses roun the sides going to large plants at the back but i'm wondering if there is an easy way to reduce/stop the plants growing over the beach? Could i just put soil substrate round the sides and back capped with sand, then put the beach area sand all the way down? would this make any difference?

Don't you kind of build up little walls in the substrate fill the part you want with sand and the other side of the wall with your plant substrate?

Like a divider or barrier in the substrate?
I use broken pieces of DW and it works fairly well, just an occasional runner gets by
