Teaching children is hard. Teaching fish is a bit easier.
For fish that hide, I find it works kind of in reverse to what we might think. Fish hide so we don't give them hiding places and they are scared silly but if they find they can duck and cover almost everywhere, they may come out more. Adding hiding can make them feel safer just as you might.

If you were in a field with one tree and scared, you stay behind that tree. But if you are in a field full of trees, you may feel safe to move from tree to tree as long as there is not threat out there?

Also adding some small quick fish may make the larger feel safer. If nobody harms the small guys, the big guys feel safer. Just have to find the small quick fish that doesn't get eaten!
