ROTALA SP. 'NANJENSHAN' - pruning question?

Guys.. im having some success with my new planted tank.. seeing new growth..etc.

My question is I think fairly general.. how do you prune plants like this?
Is it as simple as cutting off a stem/stalk and replanting? Will it form roots if I do this?

Just want to be ready as this guy grows..

Does anyone have experience pruning this guy or is pruning relatively constant per species?

I trim just above the leaf nodes and then do what you want with the trimmed pieces, some trim back the leaves that would otherwise be buried in the substrate, and replant.
