How many people are using RODI water in planted tanks?

If you are using it or have knowledge on the subject, could you please weigh in?

What affect does it have on a tank, do you need to add more supplements/ fertilizers? If you are transitioning from a tank that used tap w/ prime will there be any negative side affects?

Jeremy, aren't you using RO water for the SW tank?

I use half RO water and half tap. Works great for plants and cherry shrimp tank.

Alliper: I have been grabbing jugs from wally world and a few gallons at a time from a buddy. It is time to make the step up. I wanted to verify that I would be good to go using rodi on all of my tanks.

Pico: that seems like a good way to reduce tds and keep some of the benefits of tap.

I use and have used straight RO water in my tank for 6 years now. I dose the EI method and have never had to re mineralize anything. I even use it in my fire red
Shrimp tank with no effects. Ro water is not pure water and still contains minerals. Just not as much as tap water would

I use RODI in my planted tank. After 'brewing' my water through the system, my KH is around 3-4, which is fine. I do add Seachem Equilibrium to boost my GH level to 4. Also add some Seachem Stability (beneficial bacteria).

In any decision like this you need to look at what your end goal is and what tools and supplies you have to reach that goal.

If you want a soft water tank, and your tap water is hard, then adding RO to the tap water can be a very good answer. Use enough tap to supply most of the minerals, and enough RO to keep the GH and KH low. Add what you need to complete the parameters and keep them in the right range for the fish and plants.

If your tap water is toxic and you do not want to use it then starting with RO and adding the minerals as needed for fish and plants is a good way to go.

The answer for each person, each tank will be different.
