RO or RO/DI?

I really want to get an RO system since the water here is HARD as a rock (like 15 kH and 8.4 pH). I was gonna go with bulk reef supplies suggested parts in their build your own, but do I need a deionozation unit? I heard about 99% of impurities are filtered out after RO...

I guess it depends on where you want your tds to be. Zero(rodi) or more than zero(just ro).
My tap water is 17 dgH and 14 dkH. I got the 5 stage from BRS and the DI resin lasted all of 2 months. I never got around to buying more resin, but after the RO membrane I get 2ppm TDS water. Why spend money to get rid of 2ppm TDS?

Skip the DI and just get a 4 stage setup.

Thats perfect advice for my situation. Thank you!!
+1 on Capsaicin_MFK post. My unit is RO only and 2ppm product water works great for me.
How much waste water do you get for one gallon of RO water? Curious if its worthwhile for me. My kh is 5 or 6 depending on time of year and gh is about 10.

5 stage and booster pump but very close to 1:1.
Booster pump gets credit for the increased ratio pushing 80-85 psi system pressure (needle bounces). The gauge is between the last filter can and the membrane housing, right in front of the pump.
Booster pump is a good idea, better efficiency for low pressure systems, and the waste water can be used in the garden.

Talk to the local water treatment experts. The ones who know the local water. Some minerals in the water can age the RO membrane faster. Treating the water before it gets to the RO membrane can lengthen the life of that membrane.
In my case that pre-treated water was really good for the soft water tanks. Most of the minerals were gone, but not all. Still had to add dechlor.
I rarely had to use actual RO.
