What is the best way to kill worms in a shrimp only tank? These are longer ~1" super slender hair thickness. Doesn't look like planaria to me.

Anyone successfully treat there shrimp only tank?

Also found both of my Assasin snails dead any ideas as what may have happened? I had to remove my wood to find them and also found a dead shrimpy.

Are you sure they are worms and not white leeches. I bought some shrimp from someone and they arrived all dead. I could see white worms all around and feeding on the shrimo. Took out the trusty jewelers loop. They were leeches. At first glance they look like worms but when you see them move they move from one sucker end to the other. They generally don't swim. Here is a great video of one. My lovely shipment of leeches never made it out of a cup!!!!

White worms yes I had a bad outbreak when I first started up the 14 cube, I used the dog worming powder and it worked like a charm and did not bother any shrimp, but it will kill snails. My pond snails survived the powder.

Definitely not a leach. I do have copepods in my tank, but nothing like that.

Fluvermal is the only thing that I have ever heard of that is shrimp safe.

I will have to find me some of that tomorrow.

Just double check to make sure its snail safe as well...

I think it should be, but I've heard mixed results on different dewormers

I'm pulling my Nertites and have found both of my Assassins dead, if it kills all the other snails good riddance.

Any idea on dosing this stuff?

Read the link is 0.5g shrimp safe? I got a digital scale so measuring isn't a problem.

So really quick:

Will FENBENDAZOLE work? It is from Intervet Panacur C (fenbendazole)

I can't find flubendazole close but got some of this. Comes with 3 1g packets

Its snowing in my tank! Woohoo. I think I also found the reason I've been losing shrimp randomly for no reason even with perfect water parameters.

I found HYDRA on the glass, only a couple but if theres a couple they've been there for a long time as I've added nothing new to this tank for some time.

Actually probably came over from the old scape as its the same aquasoil and I had the same moss for awhile.

Here are some great links on using Fenbendazole in your shrimp tanks:

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&...sult&cd=1&q=fenbendazole+in+fish+tank&spell=1

The only main difference between FLUbendazole and FENbendazole is that FLUbendazole is more water soluable then FENbendazole.

DIE HYDRA, PLANARIA, AND POND SNAILS!

You've posted a great compendium on using Fen- and Flu- bendazole in the shrimp tank and I just wanted to add that I did a lot of research last year and came to the same conclusion that both additives were effective and pretty unlikely to kill shrimp if you dose conservatively.

Personal experience - I have used Fenbendazole not Flu- and had good results; no planaria no microworms after a few days.

I did not use a full strength treatment. I used the small dog treatment "Active ingredient is 22.2% fenbendazole" that is off the package insert. I dosed on the side of caution of less fenbendazole, someone on Shrimpnow suggested I use less than the suggested dosage, could always be increased. Really feel looking back that was some good advise.

Quarantine....I have taken to dosing all plants with this stuff. PP will melt some of the fragile plants and this does help. Saw some Planeria in the water of a plant I had received so it is floating in a plastic tub with Fen in a tank. That way it still gets light. Light really helps during treatment.

Yeah there really annoying, just make your tank stay really clean. Hopefully soon they will be gone!
Tank is always clean. Uneaten food taken up after a few hours. Minimal feedings 3-4 times a week. Nitrates never over 10ppm, 1L of Biomedia for every 1g of water.

Will be nice to have them all gone though and have the shrimps prosper as I've lost enough to make most cry from random deaths.

I used Fenbendazole (10 mg/G) to treat my RCS tank and all the shrimps survived. I had a zebra danio fry in the tank and it helped a lot as well. Now all the worms are gone.
