Where can I find rice fish that are able to be kept outside for winter like my koi? I was able to find white ones recently at a local pet store. They said it was a mistake in there order and there store has never had them before. So he didn’t even know that they came in a different colors. thought about just getting eggs but no guarantees .

Hi @elaina

Rice fish, no matter the color variant, can tolerate temperatures down to about 40 degrees F. If the water temperature drops below that then a heater to maintain the temperature from dropping lower will likely be needed. Some sort of water circulation is also good with an air pump with an airstone or a water circulating pump. There are several species of Rice Fish (Oryzias sp) and color variants as well. Here are some of the Rice Fish one of our local breeders has in his tanks today. -Roy
