Hi Everyone!
I am a hobbyist departed, and a hobbyist returned. I started in FW tanks more than 10 years ago, then I switched to salt water tanks for a few years, then I was without a tank for about 4 years UNTIL NOW.

I first must say how amazed I am of the progression of the hobby. Everyone's individual skill and the general direction of the hobby still amazes me. The most basic of "low tech" tanks are still better than my tanks when I first started (we used to just use Petco gravel...no wonder our plants always died!)

Anyway, great to be back. I'm sure I have lots to learn from this current generation of fish nerds. I'm starting a high tech iwagumi/dutch hybrid tank!

Here's what I've got so far.

60U (20.5 gallon) by Ultum Nature Systems. This is a rimless tank I found at an LFS near me. Honestly, I love this tank. It's low iron glass, and the silicone job on this is par none!

24" Finnex Fugeray II planted +
Eheim 2217
INLINE everything! Inline co2 reactor, Hydor inline heater,
Controsoil
National Geographic white sand
5lb co2 + Aquatek co2 regulator

Equipment shot! Now i just have to figure out how I want to aquascape this bad girl

So here's what I have for aquascape so far. I'm thinking

Back left - rotala - some type of red tipped species
Front left - Utricularia gaminifolia
from rock will have some kind of moss tree

Any suggestions on
back open right
and the sand / soil division line if any?

The soils will blend if not divided. You could use some black rocks from dollar tree or use Polymer clay. mysticalnet used SculpyIII. He traced the path on parchment paper. Followed the tracing on the patchment paper. Baked at 275F for 20 min and let cool. As it cools it hardens.

Thanks Knucklez! I have some updates for you guys today. I ended up taking the advice you guys gave me. Added some rocks to separate the black soil from the white.

Current plant list
Bolbitis
Utricularia Graminifolia
Rotola Indica (future)

Can't wait to flood this tank. I'm going to wait a few days or a week to let the UG take root. But i'm not entirely sure I can wait that long...

You must be very careful when you flood it, either drip in the water or use a pan or something on the left side. Very nicely done, i like it.

Thank you for the advice. I will likely place a plastic bag inside the tank and pour water onto it slowly. This technique has worked well for me.

I'll probably flood it this weekend right after I plant some rotola Indica in the back. :-D

I would put some plastic over the substrate. Then put a saucer on top of the plastic and let the water drain slowly on the saucer.

Econde, Love those stainless steel pipes. They'll be left exposed in the scape to show them off a bit

KayakJimW, This is a big weekend for me. Rogue 1 is releasing ..and more importantly, flooding this tank!! whoo.

Hilde, Good idea....Can't ever be too cautious with this stuff! All it takes is a few errors!

Possible. Its on a foam mat right now. I'll take a lot of care of wipe of any water, but do you think the weight of the tank itself will make an impression or cause discoloration (from the light/sun)?

I bought them from Amazon--can't remember exactly, but maybe about $50-60
