After reading the post in this group,I am looking at changing to T5HO lighting. Is it possible to retrofit my hood to T5HO lighting? Would it create less heat if I dumped the hood and bought a fixture? Where would is the best place to buy it? I hope this is the right fourm to ask the last question

You need to describe your hood the best that you can so that people can answer your questions.

You know ... stuff like this: name, model, model number, what bulbs are in it now, dimensions of the area where you want to mount the light, etc. Give it your best shot. That way people can help you.

Sunlight Supply has two types of DIY T5 Retro Fit Kits. I like the Ready Fit™ T5 kit.

You can use the dimensions of their reflectors to approximate what will fit. You can do a search and find these dimensions. They are not listed here.

IceCap has a good line of T5HO retrofit kits too.

I built the hood, it matches the standard Oceanic pine cabinet, it has slats across the top, three one inch diameter vents and one four inch computer fan on each end. It measures 48 1/2 x 18x 1/2 x 7". It has six compact Fluorescent “Bright Kits” from AH supply in it now. I most-likely have to replace the bulbs anyway.

I was wondering if there it was worth the cost of changing to T5HO light or if it is just the new thing.
