A little background-
I have a 75g tank
pressurized co2
dosed with dry ferts using eI method
compact florescent fixture 2 x 65 watt 10000k bulbs
(I have a t5 fixture coming in the mail in the next day or so will be 2 6700k bulbs for 10 hours with a 2-3 hour burst of the other two 6700k bulbs. Should I burst with 10000k bulbs??)
and ecocomplete substrate

Flora:
Rotala rotundafolia
Rotala sp 'green
Limnophila aromatica
Heteranthera zosterifolia
Cryptocoryne wendtii
Cryptocoryne balansae
couple of anubias
and some flame moss attached to driftwood
also have some Blyxa japonica coming

Anyways, I was trying to get a carpet of HM going, but have had very little luck keeping the HM down and getting it to grow into a carpet. I also had a nasty outbreak of cyanobacteria that I am still combating and about to start dosing with anti bacterials. The cyano bacteria pretty much whiped out the remaining HM so I have HC that should be coming today.

I just found this thread http://www.plantedtank.net/forums/g...ion/52332-new-method-start-up-algae-free.html
about starting a tank without water in order to get a nice carpet established.

If I was to do this, would it end up killing the remains of cyano bacteria and I wouldn't have to use anti bacterials or should I rid the cyano bacteria before starting this method?

also am I right in assuming that I would have to remove these:
Rotala rotundafolia
Rotala sp 'green
Limnophila aromatica
Heteranthera zosterifolia

but can keep these emersed:
Cryptocoryne wendtii
Cryptocoryne balansae
Anubias
and the HC

what about Blyxa japonica?

I have a 90g that I could either put the pc fixture or a doulbe bulbed t-5 fixture on that I could keep the rest of the plants in until I get the carpet established. Is there any concern about the other plants in this tank with just gravel, I will start dosing this tank with ferts and keep the lights on for 8-10 hours a day.

The main question really is, what are you thoughts on doing this? Should I just try to grow them summeressed or just go ahead of try it with no water? Also any other tips that will help me get the HC to carpet in the way I want?
