Okay I have a Rena XP3 Filter on a 60 gal tank...what my question is what is the best filter media I could put into the XP3 to get rid of all the small particles floating in the tank? I guess to polish the water.....

I'm not a Rena user but to rid your tank of small particles I would suggest filter floss.

Any kind will do. I have an XP2 and buy the filter pad listed below and cut them to size using that separator thing that comes with the filter as a guide.

I think so. It's $4.00 so it won't cost much to compare it with the floss.

+2 on blue bonded filter pad for the rena xp, it's what i use on my xp1. but i do have to change it about every 2 weeks to keep good flow...my lfs sells 2'x2' pads for $5, cheap and works great.

I used to use those but tired of spending $10.00 for three. I'm not obsessed with saving money but will use scissors to save a few bucks. :icon_lol:

Saving money is great....does the blue bonded filter pad work as good as the micro filtration pads? Or is the Filter Floss better?

petmountain has the microfilter+ pads for renas for $4.24

I recommend Rena's microfiltration plus pads. These are better and last twice as long as the regular microfiltration pads.

I'd been curious myself on how good the MicroFiltration+ pads were. I just use the regular MicroFiltration pads and replace them once a month.

That's a great price.

I stick one of these on top of a whole bundle of loose polyfiber floss, with a bag of Purigen (surrounded by more floss) under that. This is the top basket in all my canisters, and IMO works pretty well.

sup guies... since we're on the subject of xp3, I had a question as well. figured better ask here then start a new thread.

How do ya'll use carbon or purigen on XP3? I'm aware of "the bag" from seachem. but was wondering if there's a DIY/chap way to do this. I've tried pantyhose, but they bundle up and hard to keep the 6 1/4" form to fit the tray. also have used netting, but not that fine, so it falls through... any advice?? thnx ahead.

I use a roll of quilt batting which I buy at Walmart for $9 and cut to fit all my canisters. Works just as well as any of the manufacturers micro filtration pads at a fraction of the cost.
