Relation btw BBA and rotting driftwood

Hello!

Relationship?
Ever since introducing a new DW into my tank, I have been getting spots of BBA on it. With the decomposing wood, is there a relation between them? There is BBA on it only, not on plants or other deco. Also, I have an excel tank with no co2 injections. Everything is pretty much the same before and after the adding of the new DW. The plants are doing great too.

Benefits of mossing DW?
Also, are there any benefits, excluding aesthetics, with the mossing or ferning of DW?

Thanks c:

I would say pull that sucker out! the only thing I can think of is maybe the spores were on it prior to coming to the tank.

The only two things I know that readily attribute to BBA growth is co2 consistency problems and lighting balance. maybe its just starting on the wood first as its the easiest place to grow

I would say no benefits except for aesthetics really
BBA is present in most tanks, even if the dw carried it in--removing the wood now isn't going to remove it from the tank. Sovling the conditions that allow it to flourish are. :)

I'm not a huge fan of moss on DW--it often looks incredibly contrived to me. But, I do have some of my moss being trained onto driftwood just to help corral it and coax my shrimp up off the substrate.
Take the wood out and scrape off the softened wood.

Where my wood has moss and plants there isn't any algae. Healthy plants are less likely to support algae growth than dead wood or rocks for that matter.
If something is decomposing, doesn't that mean it's releasing CO2? I would also think that decomposing material is the same as having a bunch of dying plants in your tank so I'd remove it.
