I'm looking to add to my current substrate. It's Fluval Stratum which I've never been entirely happy with and has always been a little thin. I'd like to gradually add a little ADA Amazonia or something.
I loaded up two little cups with fresh Malaya once and thew an erio blood vomit in one, and a king crimson in the other. They both reacted badly to what I presume was the ammonia and were dead within a week. I'm a little worried about having something similar happen again, particularly if i'm replacing full depth areas.
So how do people go about this? Is it best to replace the full depth in a particular area, or sprinkle it across the whole substrate surface?
