My longfin bushynose plecos have this red thorn like object coming out from their body. Is this normal?

That's really odd. Could it be camillanus?
Wow if only i had paid attention in the disease/parasite meeting... I guess it could be but theres very little info on it and much less pictures.
Would there be any harm if i try to treat my fish with Fenbendazole in this form from drsfostersmith?
i sat and watched the pin like worms today and they are very well alive. i see them moving and a red liquid going up and down...
You need to worm that pleco ASAP. Good chance they're anchor worms, which can be a bear to get rid of...
You can get Fenbendazole in practically ANY pet store. Its just dog de-wormer. Check the ingredients on the wormers. I use it in my shrimp tanks now and then. It may kill any snails that you have.

okay... i read somewhere i'm supposed to mix it with the fish food. Do you do the same or just apply right into the tank? Also how much do you use whichever way you go?
http://bcaquaria.com/forum/callamanus-worm.html read that and treat accordingly. I know the guy who wrote this, and he is very knowledgable. His grammar/diction might not be the best, but its more than understandable.
Once again i have Callamanus worms again from the same tank... They seem to be a lot smaller and in larger numbers this time. On my last treatment i went with some type of Fenbendazole from my local pet store. This time i would like to try Levamisole Hydrochoride. Does anyone know of a site in the US where i can buy this without a doctors prescription?

On a lighter side, it seems my Geophagus red heads have laid about 4 days ago and are currently mouth brooding. I've yet to see them let the babies out for a swim.
can you blast the tank with copper or do yo have inverts? or are the geo eggs in the tank too?
I would not recommend blasting any tank with copper. Especially one with plants or sensitive fish such as plecos and ottos. Unless you are looking to deal with the death that will insue.

Can you call the local veteranians? Sometimes, the doctors will sell you a small amount of Levamisole without a prescription if you clearly explain what it is for. Also, try feed and grain stores for farm animals. They often carry the worm medicine. Just make sure to get the dosage right.
i didn't mean blast like sick overdose... i meant to hit it with copper to kill the obvious parasite. Perhaps I should be a bit more clear...lol
I have both ottos and plecos in my 20. I doubt i could go to a feed store since I am on Oahu and most of the land is retail and residential. I'll try the local vet since the one my sister goes to is very nice. Lastly i did try BCaquaria as SearunSimpson has suggested but the persons price for just 5 grams of Levamisole Hydrochoride is $15 and an additional $2 for shipping. The initial price seems high to me for such a small amount.
My red heads are in another tank. They would be way to small for a 20g at 4+ inches each.
I would say if this tank is invert and plant free dose cupramine as if treating for ich.
It's fully planted almost.
ok, so nevermind the copper... metro? amyone ever use that for worms?
Have you tried Jungle Parasite Clear? I have used this in Planted Tanks with Catfish and plecos and had great success. You can get it at Walmart or online pretty cheap. I don't know how safe it is for invertebrates, but my snails and shrimp lived through it just fine. (Before I knew you had to be careful with shrimp.) I always used two doses, with the water change between. Make sure to due the water change. Also, with sensitive fish, you can try a smaller dosage at first to see how they react if you are worried.
I prefer to treat for worms with medicated food. www.AngelsPlus.com is where I get mine.

Try a feed store. Levamisole is used regularly to worm sheep, goats, and pigs and you can buy it over the counter.
