I've owned this RMS for at least ten years. A few days ago I noticed what appears to be a runner. Is it? The only thing is that it looks like a totally different plant without roots. It's also trying its damndest to grow out my tank. Below is a pic

It is a flower stalk. Along with flowers, it should form little plants along the stalk. More melons!

That's pretty spiffy! The roots should form later along with the plantlets. Here's some general info I found: Amazon Sword Plant Care, Growth Rate, Roots & Leaves

In the plant world in general, it's not that unusual for first leaves to be a bit different from mature leaves, IME. I would be curious to see how the leaves change as the stalk progresses though!

Congrats! You may soon have flowers. The flowers aren't self-pollinating, but they will most likely form plantlets which you can eventually plant in substrate and grow them out.

plantlets will come out of the stalk not out of the flowers. you'll see roots and all. The tip of the stock will flower if emmersed.
