Red fire shrimp?

1052 Views 3 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  HolyAngel
I was at my LFS today, and picked up a few 'Red Fire Shrimp'. They look a lot like the cherry shrimp, maybe a bit pinker. The clerks didn't really know anything about them, but did think they would breed in freshwater.

I haven't heard of this strain before, are they pretty much like cherry shrimp? They were half the cost so I figured I'd give them a shot. I only got three to help with my clean up crew, but I really like them, thinking of getting some more and figured I should learn a little more.

Thanks!

You didnt get the right strain. They are most likely regular cherry shrimp. PFR are more intense red in color rather than pinkish. Pictures would help however your description sounds like regular cherries to me.
Here's a picture I managed to catch today. They seem the same as the red cherries (same size, very similar colour except a bit less vibrant, more salmony/pink), I have no idea why they had a different label (Red Fire Shrimp) or why they were half the price. I'm planning on getting some more tomorrow though!

Yeah they're the same species, just the 'Fire Reds' have been selectively bred for a redder color ;)
