Reading KH as PPM

My Kh test kit shows my KH as a 4. Does this number have anything to do with a ppm reading? When people say their KH is 100 ppm, are they measuring this on anothe type of test kit?

I've always used 17.86 instead of 17.9, but for most of our purposes 17.9 is close enough.

Here's another way to do it also. You can take dKH and divide it by 0.056 to get ppm. Also, you can mulitply ppm by 0.056 to get dKH.
