Well I started out as wanting to do this tank as a salt water tank but after my truck engine blew I started looking into fresh water again and decided to do a planted tank after getting some more info from another Reefer/planted tank nut

I built the stand and the hood about 1 year ago and painted the trim to match. got the materials that were suggested to me

as I was instructed I used 1.5 inches of organic soil, then added 1 bag of floramax substrate to help with the plants (not suggested but thought it would help), then pool filter sand.

this one bag spread really well

after that I put the decor in that I got from the local river and some rock I had from reefing and BAM!! start filling with water. ( I washed the stump off really well over the course of a few days along with letting it sun dry)

after this was all said and done I got the lights in the canopy and got the bulbs in they are 6500k and there are 4 of them.

after a day it was bad cloudy so I drained the water and filled it up about 3 times and it got alot better. also I have a ehiem 2213 filter hooked up and running on it now so the combo of the 2 has made it alot better.

just water change:

before

after

went to LFS and got these plants
bananan plant
Anubius nana
green bacopa
rotalla
dwarf hairgrass

right side:

middle:

left:

and FTS:

it was cloudy but has gotton alot better just waiting for it to clear up a bit more.

well this is my first rodeo at a planted tank so tell me what ya'll think

A couple of notes: A 2213 isn't going to be enough filtration on that tank. I'd look to get at least a 2217.

Second, if those are T12s or T8s you are looking at low to very low lighting on the tank which the hairgrass you purchased may not tolerate.

Third, if you want the water to clear up quickly, get some water clarifier. I use it and in about 24hours it goes from that cloudy to crystal clear if given enough filtration.

Other than that it looks quite good, I just started a 75g planted so I am interested in what other people do with a similar tank.
