Now, before you answer that question, I must say that results may vary and kids ... don't try this at home. :icon_smil

We supposedly know that RI is a moderate to high light plant correct? Will grow a few inches high under the right conditions and makes a nice foreground plant.

I'm going to share something with you now that I find both rather intersesting and very attractive at the same time.

Here is how it normally grows in most of my tanks. These tanks get CO2 and dry fert dosing and have moderate to high lighting. Nice looking plant.

Now let's move on. Lets see what this plant is doing over in the low light tank. This particular tank is a 45g, gets no CO2 and occassionally (minimal) will get EI dosing. Under normal logic, you would expect it to be pretty leggy right? Well take a gander at this:

I don't know about you, but I rather like the look of the ground hugging form in the low light setup.

Maybe this particular plant has turned the bend and doesn't know the difference from low and high light. ;)

Interesting. How long have you had it in the low light condition?

IME, it sounds like it's the opposite of downoi: high light/co2/ferts=small compact growth while low light/no co2/only root tabs=larger and faster growth.
My tanks look opposite... My high light tank looks like your lower picture. Perhaps in the low light tank, your ranunculus is unshaded and getting direct exposure.
You give no indication of how much and what type of lighting is over each tank or how big the "high light" tank is. Photoperiod for each?

For the high light tank, we are looking at just over 3.5wpg. The low light is about 1.5. Photo period is 10 hours.
