Carbonates are 'basic' (as opposed to 'acidic') so any addition of carbonates to my water will have the effect of increasing my pH. Your water is relatively soft, possibly you mean that you want to increase the amount of calcium or magnesium (which is what a GH test kit measures) in your tank? Regrettably the water districts I checked on Cape Code do not indicate the levels of calcium or magnesium in your water but I would suspect that most of that 6.0 dGH is calcium and are very low on magnesium (which is common in most water supplies). It is possible to increase your dGH without effecting your carbonates and pH but not your dKH. Hope this helps! -Roy
