Hi, We have owned many of the different brands over the years. IMHO we have found that the Whisper HOB are reasonably quiet, they have a nice flow control valve which is very handy if you need to throttle down the flow.
Quiet HOB

Can you guys recommend a relatively quiet HOB ? I have 2 old Aqueon 55 and 2 old Emperor 400 (too big also) and they are a little noisy. I was thinking about 2 Aqua Clear 70 to complement my Rena canisters.
2 tanks, 29g and 55g.

I have an Whisper EX45 that I use for my 10g hospital tank(no flow control) and yes it is quiet. I am going to check out the 60 model and I hope it is smaller in size than the Emperor.
I like aquaclears the best. My whisper HOBs were junk and the penguin I have is too difficult to clean the impeller housing out.
I think I'll get 2 AQ70. Perfect length size(8 1/2")for what I need.
