Quick connect for filter

Hi everyone,

I have these (2) Fluval 403. Yeah, I know they're old. :D But they do their job amazingly. I love them. But guess what I hate about them? those quick connect just won't work as quick. I would call it "the longest time" connect instead of quick connect. I hate it. Every time I do water change, those things really pissed me off. I do water change in less than 10 minutes, but to connect and disconnect takes me 30 minutes (if im lucky and not pissed). :D

So, do you guys have any suggestion? May be there is a generic "QUICK" connect out there? or from home depot? or whatever "QUICK".....

Thank you.

Make one out of some parts from home depot or lowes. I think you could probably throw something together. You can make it. So the tubing will come apart living some tubing connected to the tank. Just a thought.

Thanks for the suggestion. Yeah, that's what I thought. But I would rather go with generic or other 'ready" quick connect, if it's available.
If you do custom you can make it what ever way you want
Do the parts stick together? Hard to pull apart? Add a trace of Vaseline or vegetable oil to the tubing where it enters the fitting.

Always turning the nut the wrong way? (That is my favorite mistake) Paint an arrow on it.

The 403 has different tubing sizes, right? The 203 does not, and that was my other favorite mistake- swapping IN and OUT tubes. Now I take them apart differently.

Losing the O-ring deep in the filter? I grab that first the moment it comes apart and set it aside where I cannot forget to put it back in.

Hard to squish the lid/pump part back on? Vaseline on the O-ring.

Other than those tips, you could get a couple of unions that are standard plumbing items, but you would also need some sort of adapter from the tubing to standard plumbing sizes. Keep the ball valves that came with the filter, as long as they are still working OK, or swap them out, too.
