Question re: airgas Y12-244A regulator

I was just gifted a brand new airgas Y12-244A two stage regulator. After checking the specs I found out that the max working pressure is 25-30psi. My question is: is it ok to run the regulator at the max 30psi the whole time? Are there any reasons I can't/shouldn't?

I believe I read somewhere that in order to avoid end of tank dump the working pressure should be kept at 30psi or greater. Any insight would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Mike

You have a two stage regulator, you don't have to worry about the end of tank dump. And yes, you can run the regulator at max psi the whole time, nothing wrong with that. The only thing you should worry about is the diffusion method, you just have to avoid diffuser that require 30+ psi. That a nice regulator, especially when it's free and brand new.

And you should send the person who gifted you that regulator a fruit basket. It's a law in Canada, you need to send them a basket of fruits.
That's a really nice reg. Retail at $470.

I agree. Nice gift! :D

I also agree you can run it at full pressure no problem. Any reason why you want to?
Thanks for the quick replies. I thought I read somewhere that the regs should be run at 30psi or greater but I guess that's only for diffusers requiring that amount of working pressure. I use your standard ceramic disc diffuser so I guess I don't have to run at 30psi. Thanks again for the info. And yes, it was a pretty awesome gift from my sister who's pharmaceutical lab is closing down. There's probably a stock room full of these at her lab.

Well, snatch them up then. :D

It's your chance to take over the equipment.
