Question about moving my fish in 65 gallon...

Hi, I am moving some fish from louisiana to georgia soon. I currently have a 65 gallon tank in georgia where I live now that has 5 bolivian rams and 6 merigold platies. It also has some plants in it including amazon swords and americana vals. I am currently looking to put more fast growing plants in to accumulate the ammonia that will soon be introduced into the tank with additional fish. I was planning on temporarily moving my fish from louisiana into this 65 gallon tank until I can get my 100 gallon set back up here. All the fish that I will be moving are listed in my signature. My question is...Will my 65 gallon tank go into ammonia overload by adding them all at once or will the plants prevent the ammonia from rising to harmful levels??

any input please?
Whew thats gonna be one crowded tank. If your 65 tank is cycled I guess I wouldnt be too worried about ammonia, especially if you increase your water changes. I would be more concerned about the stress due to too many tankmates and perhaps agrression. But i think you could pull it off with WCs and maybe put the filtration from your 100 on to your 65. I wouldnt do it for long though.
yes its going to be a very temporary thing. ONce i get the 100 gallon up and running from la then ill move them all back.
You might want to preempt fishfights by sticking a divider in--get a cheap fluorescent light diffuser egg crate thingy from a hardware store and bust it to size.

Moving fish is hard, and squishing them into a 65 while you set up their permanent home is probably as good as it gets. It's a good idea to hook up your 100 gal filter if you can.

I kept 4 large goldfish in a 10 gallon tank for a week while my tank was being shipped (about 3.5 fish too many for the tank). Not fun, but doable! Lotsa water changes--don't count on the plants being able to do it all.

Good luck!
You can try to save the culture in your Rena by connecting it also to the 65 and it will provide additional filtration for the larger bio-load. Then, it will be ready to move back to the bigger tank without needing to re-cycle.

yeah i think that is a great idea. I think it will be ok with all the fish getting along. They are all community fish so we will see.
The ammonia you can control, it'll be a lot of work but doable. Aggression is what's going to get you. If it's for the very, very short term I might risk it. But if it's going to be a week or two, I'd consider getting rid of a few of the fish. Good luck on the move.

what fish are going to show aggression? All of the fish i have are very mild mannered, and i know that they quarters will be tight but i doubt that the fish listed in my sig. are going to have aggression...

how much of the water and how often should i change the water once the fish are in?
The cichlids aren't likely to take it lying down...but maybe they'll behave.
which cichlids? the angels or the rams?
