I just received a old marineland magnum 200 canister filter from my grandpa. This is my first canister filter so im not quite sure how these things work.

The water will come in from the top and will drain from the bottom. However, im wondering how and what kind of media am i supposed to put in it? I usually use a HOB filter with sponges then some biomax stuff, but the square sponges i normally get obviously wont fit in it.

Any tips/advice on what i can do to fill the media compartment with?

The internal section can be used for carbon and bio media.
