Brigitta 'Chili' Rasbora
My favorite fish.
I keep about a dozen in my office tank (10G black water, along with a handful of Albino Cory Cats (another great fish)). The Chilis have grown up to about 3/4" to 7/8". They don't school, but they do hang out together. They mostly they roam carefree though out the upper levels of the tank but they have periods where the alpha Chili has the rest group pushed into a corner while he puts his moves on his ladies... They don't seem bother by the little cory cats, but they rarely venture below halfway mark of the tank. They have over two months picked off the grass shrimp I keep in the tank (party to feed the Chilis and party to keep it clean).
I don't think Chili Rasboras will be comfortable in a community tank. They are too small, and while not 'shy' they are guarded (due to their small size). I can't say for sure as every fish is different, but if you want your Chilis to shine (and turn that awesome red) they'll need to be in a tank they feel safe in (maybe their own tank). I'm guess that the larger fish in your tank have them hiding. While those fish might not pose a threat to the Chili Rasboras they don't know that...
Rasboras are also happier with soft water and a low pH. They like lots of places to hide and plenty of driftwood. Be careful with your filter intake, too strong of an intake and pull in a small chili in the blink of an eye.
They're good fish you should enjoy them.
