Have any suggestions for such a plant? I have a roughly 2 gallon kritter keeper I am thinking of turning into an emerged setup, and I happen to like red or purple plants. Are there any that would work well in such an emerged setup? Are there any non red/purple plants that would look interesting in such a setup? (If this helps, the light will be rested somewhere between 12-18 inches above the base of the keeper to allow the plants to grow out of the kritter keeper).

I've never kept it other than in pots, so I'm not sure? But it's pretty hardy... I suspect it would be fine as long as not too much stem was under water.

Purple Queen is another similar option. Might be too large a plant for your 2gal if you want to keep the lid on though.

You shouldn't need to mist these two at all.

If you're looking into plants that DO need to be misted, you'll probably need to use different lid for your KK to hold in humidity, and you might start looking at some Crypts.

Alternathera Renekii works for me. I have it emersed growing in a riparium type setting. This close to the light it's showing me colors I haven't seen before, a nice purpley red. Once it's used to being emersed, mine survives fine in room humidity, but it is right above the tank, so humidity is probably a bit higher right there.

"wandering jew" Tradescantia zebrine is a nice purple and green thickly banded/striped plant that does excellent in a riparium style setup, it adds a nice splash of color to the mostly green above water plants I have. I bought mine at a garden center potted and rinsed it off then slapped it in my HOB (Hang On Back filter) with foam. Its growing faster than I'd expected and its roots are actually growing out of the outflow of the filter now. I am going to have to trim some of the stems soon and will probably re-plant them in some more riparium baskets (need to get some).

My light does not catch the purple hue well, but I've had these for 1 month..
this is how they looked the 1st day I put them in to give a growth reference (hardly hanging out of the HOB at all)
