I have my Aqua Medic 1000 CO2 reactor inline with my eheim pro III 2075 right now and feel it is cutting down the flow a little too much going from the 5/8 tubing down to the 1/2 for the reactor, plus the bio-balls in there.

So I am thinking of making a closed loop just for the Co2 reactor and possibly an inline heater someday. Now since the reactor has 1/2 inlets I would like to keep it all that size (pump outlets, heater outlets, etc...). I have never bought a submersible pump like this before so dont know which ones are good and which are bad. I recall hearing the name RIO pumps a lot and thought of them as an option but would like to hear from others what they use and possibly some pics of their pumps placement.

My biggest concerns/questions are:
Having to constantly clean the intake screen on the pump to prevent it clogging up.

Is there any type of prefilter that can be used with these?

Size of pump I should get? (GPH)

and finally any other tips would be helpful.

I've used Eheim 1048 for a 55g tank than up-dated to a Mag 3. Then got a bigger tank and up-dated to a Mag 5 500gph pump close loop with a AM1000,uv light and a hydro heater. I think you might get a way with a Mag 7 if you are planing to add other equipment in-line . I do think 600gph pump is the Max.
You can use Eheim intake and returns or use pvc and some thing like this for intake:
