My tank has been up and running about 8 weeks now and it seems as if the water flow from the pump is decreasing. It is a Danner mag-drive 9.5 that came with the tank and is submerged in the sump. Is it necessary to take this pump apart periodically and clean it?

In my opinion, yes you do need to take the pump apart and clean it. Although you should get more than 8 weeks between cleanings.

It's also possible that the pump sucked in something, and it's clogging the intake, or it could have some broken inside it. Take it apart, clean and inspect it.

The entire setup was used when I got it and it didn't even cross my mind to take the pump apart and clean it when I set it up. I doubt it sucked anything up since it is in a separate chamber of the sump but I am sure it would be worth it to break it down and clean it.
