Puffer question

Let it be known, I know virtually nothing about puffers other than they eat snails and look cool. I have Spixi snails. I like it that way, but not when I get busy with school and forget to pull out egg bundles. Any opinion on using a puffer to take care of the breeding problem? It's a community tank. PH 7ish, temp 78-80, gh5, KH3-4, phos 1-2, ammonia, nitrite, nitrate zero. There are a few glass cats, khuli loaches, plecos, Siamese algae eaters, and thread fin rainbows. There is also a colony of fire reds in the tank.

Puffer fans, fill me in. What do you think? No other snail species is present.

Maybe assassin snails instead?

Puffers are feisty! And I think they need a lot of room.
Not sure assassins would keep up. But I think their introduction is a good idea. A very good idea. Threadfins are fragile fish. Feisty does not sound encouraging.
I would not use a puffer if you plan on keeping your fire red colony. I have a figure eight puffer and his favorite food is shrimp.

He is the puffer of F8! Deadly F8!

I love how the assassins connection just showed up magically for you!
I used to have asassins. Got rid of them to get Spixi snails. Like the spixis but not in this quantity. Had not really thought of going back for more snail on snail violence. But I think it is probably the only real option short of just killing a ton of them manually all the time. Which feels cruel. Not that hitting them with paralytic venom and eating them is any nicer, but at least I don't have to do it personally.

Thanks for the reminder.
