Saw this stuff at Hobby Lobby for a reasonable price and was wondering if it's aquarium safe. It says 'non-allergenic' which I assume is the same as hypoallergenic...

Hi jmeeter,

For what use? If you want to use it to replace sponge it needs to be 'open cell' with an appropriate ppi.

I wanted to use it in my sump for mechanical filtration! :)
Hi jmeeter,

American Excelsior Co makes both 'open cell' and closed cell foam, ppi (pores per inch) are not specified. Why not pick up some Poret Foam from Swiss Tropicals; it is made for the hobby, non-toxic, available in various ppi and thicknesses.
the flow might just flow around the foam instead of through it.
It should be safe though its polyurethane and flammable. fire retardant foam is bad.
