There are a lot of small plecos and their diets vary as well. The bushynose usually stay under 6 inches and are good algae eaters. Many of the hypancistrus species are even smaller but they require a bit more animal protein. Some very attractive species like the L-47 mango pleco can be found once in a while in the 3 inch range. They can grow to about 10 inches but they are very slow growers and it would take years. There is also the pitbull pleco LDA-25. These will usually stay under 3 inches and are relatively inexpensive if you can find them.

Good Luck, I hope you find what you're looking for.
