Those are Nerite eggs, so no worries. The eggs *might* hatch, but even if they do, the larvae can't survive in freshwater.

I didn't think they even laid eggs in freshwater. I wish I could take them out and put them in brackish water till they hatched. I just paid a fortune to buy more. LOL

Do you know what the little oval shaped snails are that come on the plants? Sorry, I don't have a pic.

Apparently Nerites are challenging to breed. There've been a few people on here who've made some serious attempts, but IDK that any have been terribly successful?

that top photo kinda looks like mushrooms? when some of my dw was above water and moist, tiny mushrooms would grow on it

So was researching nerite snail eggs an came across this post and have a question. If they don't hatch how long will the eggs stay around? I have had some on my glass and rocks for a couple months.

The eggs will be forever there. You have to remove it manually.

I have some egg cases on a filter intake that have been there for... more than 5 years now? (They're in a place that's hard to reach to clean...)

Oh come on don't tell me that How hard are they to get off? Will it effect anything to leave them there?

Oh you can usually get em off pretty easily, just takes a little scraping. Or you can leave them.

The ones on the glass can be taken off with single edge razor blade takes them of in a jiffy.

Are you sure that kuhli loaches eat snails? I've never heard of this and I have 10 half banded kuhli loaches and a dozen or more of unwanted pond snails. I've be waiting for their population to multiply so I can zucchini or cucumber them out.

I have kuhlis that eat snails, the little guys not the nerites. They don't get them all usually only the dumb ones that go to the bottom of the tank. They wont solve the problem of pest snails but help to keep them in check.

I for one don't have a problem with the snails, the egg cases can get annoying if there are a lot on the glass, but I kinda like em, I also think it's pretty cool looking to have the empty shells mixed in with the substrate.
