So i'm switiching to t5, but i'm thinking the 30" coralife... It has two 18W bulbs in it - now i know that the wpg thing doesn't apply cleanly to the t5's, so is this the correct lumens for my planted tank? I'm running pressurized co2 and looking to get some hairgrass going and some rotala indica if possible... Thanks!

Well, first off, your 20L is 30" long. T5s come in 24", 36", and 48" (roughly). Your T5s will either be too short or too long for the tank.

I'd stick with a Coralife fixture...I don't know which has the 2x18w, but there is a 1x65w 30" fixture that might go well with your tank, especially since you have pressurized CO2.

thanks for the input... i'm hearing that the 2x18w has more lumens than the 1x65w. i believe the 1x65 is a t8 or power compact, whereas the 2x18 is a t5. anyone else know if this is true?

Coralife makes 30" NO T5 bulbs and fixtures. They come in freshwater and saltwater versions. They are also available in single bulb and dual bulb versions. The bulbs are Actinic, 10,000K, 6700K and Colormax. Here's the twin bulb 2x18w 30" T5 freshwater version. Coralife F/W T-5 Aqualight Double Strip Light-30" at Big Al's Online

I know that I have only seen HO T5's in 24", 36" and 48" versions.

Coralife's T5's are NO and are the only company that I know about that has 30" T5's.

Here's the 30" 1x65w 6700K PC Freshwater Aqualight that was mentioned earlier. Coralife Freshwater Aqualight Deluxe-Single 30" Strip at Big Al's Online

yeah i saw that the t5's are NO, is that gonna be less light for my plants? i'm currently running a 24" 65W Cf, and i want better quality light for a hairgrass bed...

i wouldn't mind spending the cash, but that light looks like it would boil my fish in a 20 gallong long.... 4x24w on a 20L? methinks it's a bit much...

for everyone else' searches, i just talked to big al's on the phone (nice guy, btw) and he said that the t5 coralife won't approach the effectiveness of the 65w power compact...

The 4x24w Tek T5 comes with 2 ballasts and 2 on/off switches. You could have these on separate timers. You could have two lights that work most of the time and you could have the other two come on for a mid-day burst of light where all four bulbs are on. Something like this will probably work:
4 hours - 2 bulbs on
2 hours - 4 bulbs on.
4 hours - 2 bulbs on.
