I am offering plants for sale to help support a summer program at UC Berkeley for Southeast Asian Students (Vietnamese, Laotian, Khmer, and students whom parents has gone through the Diaspora during the Viet Nam War). The summer program is sponsored by the Southeast Asian Student Coalition. I was one of the founding members of the organization when I was a student at Berkeley. This is their 4th summers and they are in dying needs of money. I've been helping them to raised money for their food and transportation budget. Their food and transportation budget is about $3,000. So far I have raised about $400. Still waiting for other people to say how much they will donate. We hope to bring 25-30 students to the summer program depending on this year budget. Believe me they fight hard for every penny they get from the University. Last year I went to speak on their behalf at the Associate Student Body and they got $800 out of $2000 that they asked for. This year I also went and spoke on their behalf they got a little more this year. They got $1200. This year’s budget is about $550 per student. Last year they were able to bring 32 students to the program. If you do not want to buy the plants and you can make donation. You will get a letter of donation and a 501(c) tax ID # for your tax write-off. Thanks for looking! You can learn more about the summer program by going here: http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~sasc/. I know this program works because it has changed one of my student’s lives. Not too long ago his cousin was visiting from San Jose State and his cousin was shot and he died. My student knew exactly who did it. A lot of his friends want him to go and retaliate and kill the other guy. He called me up and we spoke and he mentioned that if it were not for the summer he spent at UC Berkeley he would have gone and gets that guy back. The summer program helps students to understand their environment and teaches them that violence is not the answer to anything. Right now, he’s a senior and is deciding on attending UC Davis or San Diego State University. By buying plants from me you will help these students and you get some cool plants in your tank as well
