Depends entirely on the plant and set up...
Often there is melting as the plant can no longer sustain itself in its current configuration. This can be very drastic and sometimes non recoverable. Though if you have enough of the plant you'll get at least part of it acclimated in time and it will recover.
Other times there is no melt, and the new growth just comes in completely different (I have a ludwiga that has dark large leaves for the bottom half and small green leaves for the top half from doing what you want to do).
Expect melting, and expect a farely long recovery period. Then expect nice solid growth that looks nothing like what you purchased
