So does anyone have any different methods of helping to plant a really tall tank? like 24 inches tall? Especially someone who's like 5'6 lol

that would definitely help. how about making the substrate a bit deep? say 3 or 4 inches?
3-4" is not very deep at all. You can slope it so that it's even deeper at the back, or mound it so that it's super deep, like 10"+.

I'd like to have a 36" tall tank one day but I'd need custom tools or extensions to reach the bottom. I'm not going to scuba dive into it just to trim the plants.
Yeah I know what you mean. I am about 5'7". What I end up doing is buying the tanks and then build a stand so it's easy for me to reach in. The benefit is being shorter when I sit down it's perfect height to see right inside.

I tried this and would not recommend it. Anaerobic spots.

I'm 5'4" and I use a step stool and 13" tools when working in my own 24" deep 90gal.
I've had no problems with the substrate like that before.

Does that help at all?
My 30" deep 220. Super pita lol. I have to take my shirt off. Tried cutoff shirt and my chest gets soaked.. so its no shirt when planting. Most of the time my nose Is touching the water . Im 5 10". And thats with a step stool. . Lol my 25 is easy. I can touch the substrate all day.. just watch my sleeves.

I can't seem to work the tools well enough. Step stool is a must tho.
I bought some long tongs at petco that help a lot on my 24" tall tank. It was about $10 and has interchangeable parts. It comes with tongs and scissors. I really don't know what I'd do without it. I am 6' 2" and I have to put my entire arm in the tank to reach the bottom....not fun at all lol.

that's short???
Everything is relative. When everyone in your family is over 6' tall yeah 5'7" is short. Never hear the end of them either.:red_mouth
