I have an eclipse hood. The one with the filtration trough that leads over to a biowheel. Currently in the trough there is a typical filter with fiber and charcoal.

What I was thinking about doing was replacing that cartridge with some gravel and a plant that would do well with water current, but also having its leaves above water.

I just thought this might create a nice effect and would provide good particle filtration.

That's such a neat concept. I saw a Paradise tank on the 'net once that had pothos filling the back of the hood (submersed roots, emersed leaves and stems). Great home for the Paradise with all those roots.

Pothos can utilize little light, just like Philodendron. They don't make a fuss.

Thanks for the suggestions!

A plant growing on the top of my tank would make me as excited as one growing below. As soon as I get it done I'll make sure I take a picture.

I'll also have my water tested before and after the plant.
