I observed that many users- both new and old- have trouble keeping up with abbreviated terms in the forum. So I am putting together a list of these acronyms and what these mean to help people understand the language of this forum better.

Note: To easily find the term you are looking for press ctrl + f and type the abbreviation in.

MTS= Mineralized Top Soil, Malaysian Trumpet Snail, Multiple Tank Syndrome
DSM= Dry Start Method
T5HO= High Output T5 light bulbs
T5NO= Normal Output T5 light bulbs
MGOCPM= Miracle Gro Organic Choice Potting Mix
HC= Hemianthus callitrichoides (Dwarf Baby Tears)
UG= Utricularia graminifolia
DHG= Eleocharis parvula (Dwarf Hairgrass)
RCS= Neocardinia heteropoda var. 'red' (Red Cherry Shrimp)
CRS= Caridina cantonensis (Crystal Red Shrimp)
BKK= Caridina cantonensis (Black King Kong Shrimp
ADA= Aqua Design Amano
GBR= Mikrogeophagus ramirezi (German Blue Ram)
Neos= Neocaridina (Genus of shrimp)
LED= Light Emitting Diode
CO2= Carbon Dioxide
K= Kelvin rating (Color Temperature for light bulbs) or Potassium
RO/DI= Reverse Osmosis Deionized water
DIY= Do It Yourself
BBA= Black Beard Algae
SAE= Crossocheilus oblongus (Siamese Algae Eater)
G= Gallon
L= Liter or Long (as in 20 Gallon Long)
N= Nitrogen
P= Phosphorus
EI= Estimative Index
Fe= Iron
Cu= Copper
PP= Potassium Permanganate, a substance used to kill snails, snail eggs, pests, and algae on plants.
WPG= Watts per gallon
GH= General Hardness
KH= Carbonate Hardness
CPO= Cambarellus patzcuarensis (Mexican Dwarf Orange Crayfish)
NTS= New Tank Syndrome
JD= Jack Dempsey Cichlid
TDS= total dissolved solids
pH= potential hydrogen (measure of acidity)
LFS= local fish store
CPD= danio margaritatus (celestial pearl danio/galaxy rasbora)
BN(P)= ancistrus sp. (bristle/bushynose plecostomus)
HOB= hang on back filter
UGF= undergravel filter
BB= beneficial bacteria
FTS= Full Tank Shot
PFS= Pool Filter Sand
WC/PWC= Water Change/Partial Water Change
CFL= compact fluorescent light(bulb)
OEBT= orange eye blue/black (either, depends) tiger shrimp
CBS= crystal black shrimp, a variation on CRS above
vals= vallisneria sp.
lm = Lumen (unit for amount of light from a light source)
lx = Lux = lm/m2 (amount of light per squere meter)
nm = Nanometre (commonly used as a unit for wavelength(color) of light)
UV = Ultraviolet (as in ultraviolet light)
PAR = parabolic aluminized reflector or Photosynthetically active radiation
PPM = Parts per million almost the same thing as mg/l.BGA= blue-green algae
BGA= blue-green algae
MH= metal halide lighting (not USUALLY for planted tanks, but can be/have been used)
GSA= green spot algae
CEC= Cation-exchange capacity in layman terms that is the amount of nutrients a soil is capable of storing.
SnS= Swap n' Shop
RAOK= Random Act of Kindness. Used in the SnS.
SOM= Soil Organic Matter
TOC= Total organic carbon
