Does anyone have pics of a planted Hex? A friend offered to give me their 30g....but i'm not sure I want it - lol. Never been crazy about them.

If I take it, it'd be very low tech, probably plant only...maybe a viv or terrarium?

Just wondering if anyone has one that looks nice.

Thanks
TT

I think mine looks nice. Very low tech tho - low light, no ferts, no co2.

Older pics when first set up about 5 years ago - the plant under the driftwood is fake the rest are real:

A little vid taken about 3 years ago - all plants are real and I think my tank looked it's best at this stage:

More recent pics about 1.5 years ago - all plants are real - I've since torn out most of the dwarf sag n the foreground (sorry for the bad lighting in the pics!):

i agree they are hard to make look nice and get enough lighting to the bottom so anything grows.

but you can get them to look decent. thats with 1 t8 bulb and very spuratic liquid ferts

Thanks for the pics - this one looks the same as mr_bob 's tank. Wish it was more like wedyjo's - I could work with that...

I think i'm going to decline unless someone has something that inspires me..

You can make it work if you use ferns, mosses, anubias, etc to get your plants up in the mid and upper levels of the tank instead of putting everything in the substrate. Attach them to the decor - get a tall piece of wood or store bought decor and attach a large fern to it. I started with a small fern on a fake tree stump and I just trimmed that sucker cause it was nearly as big as my head. Find decor to reach all levels of the tank, add plants to them at all levels, and you will have a very interesting tank regardless of the height.

I have been looking for a reasonably priced, more traditional hex tank in a cherry finish to go with mine but haven't found one yet other than some woman on Craigslist that wants a fortune for one. But I'd be very happy with a tank like the one you're being offered.

I had a pretty nice planted 35gal Hex tank. I been planted for almost 2 years. I have a single T8 bulb.

Very Happy fish.

I don't know if this will inspired you, but I really enjoy my tank. Tall tanks are great for stem plants.

Here is my 44 gallon hex. It's so low tech its not even funny. It's really a junk tank. I have a 75 gallon high tech planted tank but I throw clippings and whatever into this tank. Just gravel and two reg florescent lamps. Most plants are low light(java moss, java fern, a few amazon swords, ludwigia, anubias and some cyrpts.
