I have Potomageton gayii in my tank. I can see the resemblance from this top view, but that's not it. Sorry, this was taken from a phone camera, and all I got was this shot.

I found 3 pockets of this stuff. The plants were only about 2-3 inches high.

Since you mentioned Potamogeton gayii, I got curious and looked up other possibilities within the Genus. After looking at a few pictures, I think it probably is some form of Potamogeton, but it's hard to tell which one. Could be zosteriformis, robbinsii, pectinatus, etc. I don't know. Too many to choose. What I found looked like it was carpeting; similar (maybe the same as) jaidexl's find. It still doesn't look quite right though. I guess it's going in my tank anyway. I'll see what happens.
