I found this plant growing under a bridge in a creek near the Mossman river today.

I only noticed it there due to the floating leaves. It also has foliage under water that looks like echinodorus tennelus but on a stem.
It was growing in a very large group and the bottom of the creek was thick with leaves, mud and debris.

I could not resist taking a little bit home and trying it out in my new knife fish tank.
Could someone help identify this?
I will let you all know how it goes.

It might be sago pondweed

I have spent the last few hours researching and I am sure it is a Potamogeton species of some sort. have not yet narrowed it down.

Most likely Illinois pondweed (Potamogeton illinoensis). At first I was leaning towards American pondweed (Potamogeton nodosus) but as far as I know that does not occur in Australia.
