Anybody have any idea what type of this plant is? it seems like some sort of vallisneria i pulled it out of a pond at my college LOL (they're big) around 18 inches

This also came from the same pond looks like carolina fanwort to me. Any ideas?

and finally what is my water sprite trying to do? are those rhizomes? almost every stem I have is doing this and I'm curious as to what it is trying to accomplish

Water-Sprite EDIT it is Propogating, eventually it will break off and you can re-plant it.
