I have just purchased a pH controller but am very confused as to how to set it up. Should it run 24/7 or should it be connected to a timer.
If so where should the timer be placed before the controller or a the co2 regulator connection.

If the last option is used surely this will alter the timer setting when the power to the co2 regulator is switched off.

Which controller do you have? Some have programmable times, which would eliminate the need for a timer.

You could have the pH controller on 24/7, but some may argue that CO2 would be wasted at night. As such, you can opt to have the timer, with the pH controller plugged into the timer. You don't want to have the timer plugged into the controller, as the controller would then turn on/off the timer, messing up the timing, as you already mentioned

However, do make sure that your pH controller 'remembers' the pre-set values that you want (and that a power cycle doesn't cause it to reset).
